Mark Steven Richardson, 59, passed away on November 15, 2021
Born in 1961, Richardson grew up outside Bakersfield in the small farming community of Shafter.
After graduating from Shafter High School in 1980, Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in history at UC Berkeley in 1985.
He continued his post-graduate education. He earned his master’s degree in educational administration from California Lutheran University in 1992, and a doctorate in organizational leadership would follow in 2007.
He was a teacher, a coach, a dean of students, an assistant principal and a principal before he rose to the position of superintendent at high school districts in both Taft and Santa Maria, where he retired in the summer of 2019.
Mark loved learning, from ways to better students education to ways to repair his Westfalia. He also loved teaching and coaching, always wanting to help others reach their full potential.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kelly, and two sons, Vaughn and Val, and a daughter, Sherah and grandson, Ryker. He is also survived by his parents, Steve and Pat Richardson as well as his brother Kevin and his family.
