My name is John Nunes and I just recently learned of Mark's passing while seeing the 5k memorial to Mark's legacy on the Devil Mountain run website.  My sincere condolances to Mark's family. I met Mark on the Iron Horse trial while running. I ran the trail for the better part of 20 years while living in Danville and San Ramon and would speak with Mark frequently. Mark was alway greeting and talking with people on the trail when I would see him. Seems he knew everyone by name. 

The first time I met Mark we hit it off both learning that we were born the same year and graduated from area high schools in 1973. Mark from Sunset and myself from Arroyo in San Lorenzo. We talked about many people we both knew on the two baseball and football high school teams.  I remember several years ago when Mark was very excited about breaking the 3 hour mark on one of his marathons as a senior runner. I thought, wow, what a remarkable feat at his age!  I just learned on this site we were both born at the same hospital in Oakland - Providence. Rest in peace my friend. John
