Mark's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Nickel, who died on February 3, 2025, at the age of 56. Mark was born and raised in Vidalia, Georgia, to Kathryn “Kitty” (Summerlin) Nickel, who survives him, and the late Walter “Bud” Nickel. He was preceded in death by his father, but leaves behind his beloved mother, two sisters—Lillian Nickel Thigpen and Valerie Nickel Tapley—and many cherished friends and family members who will remember him fondly.
Mark was married for over 30 years to Cristy Stewart (formerly Nickel), with whom he shared three children: Summerlin (Nickel) Adkins, Tanner Nickel, and Judd Nickel.
Mark’s life was defined by his three children, his passion for cars, and his joy and pride in his hometown and history. In his early years, Mark's boundless energy and adventurous spirit through childhood into early adulthood made him well-known throughout Vidalia. His love for cars began at a young age and only grew as he got older, ultimately turning into a lifelong passion. He was also passionate about his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he gave up after having children.
Mark was also an entrepreneur, having formerly owned and operated Dent Pushrz in the early 2000s, a business that allowed him to combine his love for automobiles with his incredible skill and determination. Mark thrived in this field, offering passion and service to his clients. Despite no longer operating, Mark's love for cars remained lifelong and is a skill he has passed on to his children.
Throughout his life, Mark lived in several places, making lasting memories along the way. He spent over a decade in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he became part of the community from 2006 to 2017. In 2017, he relocated to the Greenville, South Carolina area. In every place he lived, Mark was able to connect with many different kinds of people. Mark had an insatiable curiosity about the world and he loved to share the things he learned with others. He was always bringing knowledge about his interests - whether it be cars, history, or a random tidbit -- to those around him. He could always be counted on to start and maintain a conversation, no matter the person. Friends and family often found themselves swept up in his excitement, whether they were genuinely interested in the topic or not! He took great joy in sharing with others.
Mark will be remembered for his personability by not only his children and mother, but also by a vast community of friends. His vivaciousness and zest for connection will not be forgotten.
Information regarding a private service will be relayed in the coming days.
Mark's family sends a deep and heartfelt thank you to anyone who has offered kind words and support during this time. We are all so appreciative to know the ways in which you will remember him and carry his memory forward.
Rest in peace, Mark. You will always be loved, always be missed, and never forgotten.
