Mark's obituary
Mark Lynn Keppler, 66, passed away on the morning of January 16, 2024, after a nearly 5 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his daughters, Amber (John), and Alexis (Robert), and his gorgeous grandson, Elliot. He is also survived by his extended family in Alabama, which includes his uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Mark had an absolute zest for life and loved to enjoy good food and great wine. Anyone who knew him knew that he was a connoisseur of wine. He worked at Liquor Barn in the early 1980s where he first started amassing wine for his very own cellar. He has over 1500 bottles now and he took great pride in collecting them over the past 45 years.
Mark was a collector of books and many other things—just walk into one of his houses and look at his many collections. At last count, he had 21–from pocket knives to ice buckets to cheese knives and shot glasses—amongst many others, there was always something that caught his eye. A proud bibliophile, Mark loved reading and had an amazing collection of Westerns, Mafia, and True Crime—three of his favorite genres.
He loved his girls more than life. He was insanely proud of them and was their biggest cheerleader. Mark cheered for Amber when she graduated law school and cheered for Alexis when she graduated culinary school. And he loved snacking on all of Alexis’s delicious treats. Mark traveled with his daughters to Disney World more times than he could count and even traveled to Asia to visit the Disney parks there with his girls. As an adult, he got the travel bug and fell in love with Amsterdam (pronounced by Mark as AmsterDAMMMM) and Hong Kong, especially.
When his grandson, Elliot, was born, Mark was thrilled. He made sure his grandson was spoiled by his grandpaw and loved that little boy more than anything. He was the reason why Mark fought so long and so hard to try and beat cancer. His biggest wish was to be there to see his grandson grow up.
He was a proud Marine and made sure everyone he met knew it. It was a tradition for Mark to always wear his Marine Veteran shirt whenever he flew. Mark received his medical care at the VA Long Beach, and his family is grateful for the doctors, nurses, and other personnel who took care of him over the last five years.
His family will be having a celebration of life for Mark on February 10, 2024, in Alabama. Mark would want to be celebrated because as everyone knows, he loved a good party and wouldn’t have it any other way.
