Mark's obituary
Mark Edward Heidegger, of Matteson, Illinois, passed away on May 20, 2025, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, at the age of 66.
Born on December 30, 1958, to Russell and Dorothy Heidegger, Mark grew up with a strong sense of purpose and responsibility. After graduating from school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he learned to drive semi-trucks — a skill he would carry with him throughout his life.
Mark met the love of his life, Christine Skuzinski, when his mother happened to live across the street from her. That connection turned into a partnership that lasted 27 years. Together, they shared a deep bond, a love of travel, and a passion for exploring state and national parks. Mark was the kind of partner who showed up every day with quiet strength, loyalty, and love — truly the best partner anyone could ask for.
He was a devoted stepfather and an incredible grandfather. While Mark was often serious and full of knowledge, around the kids and grandkids, his playful side came to life. He could be found laughing, joking, and turning every moment with them into a memory.
A skilled card player and game lover who always said he was “a rookie,” Mark had a competitive edge and a sharp wit. He was also a deeply creative soul—an artistic, talented drawer and painter who saw the world through a unique lens.
Mark is survived by a large and loving family, countless friends, and those lucky enough to have called him theirs. His legacy is one of love, loyalty, creativity, and quiet strength.
A service to honor Mark’s life will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, (Route 53 and Hoff Road), 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421 on July 11, 2025 at 1:30 PM.
