Mark's obituary
MARK STEPHEN FOGARSI, 1962 – 2022, died peacefully on April 18 in the arms of his loving wife after a fifteen-month battle with Glioblastoma. His wife, Lori, found it a true honor and privilege to be his wife and best friend, both in sickness and in health. Life may end, but love does not.
Mark was born and raised in the Thumb Area of Michigan by his parents Homer and Marcia, and is predeceased by them. He is survived by siblings Edward (Marcela), Richard (Barbara), and Jayme, as well as their children. First and foremost, Mark was a devoted husband and father, leaving behind his pride and joys: two sons, Stephen and Eric, and two stepdaughters, Diana and Julia, as well as his wife Lori, three cats, and a dog.
During childhood, Mark grew up in a family environment that included fishing, hunting, and being an altar boy at church. He loved to tell stories of fond memories with his brothers and their shenanigans, as well as the Alaskan malamutes their parents bred and showed.
After graduating from Bad Axe High School, Mark moved to Houston, Texas, and had a brief stint as a welder before joining the Air Force. There, he served his country and received his education in Information Technology and Engineering. After an honorable discharge, Mark went on to work for several different technology startups, residing in California, Michigan, and Florida for periods of time before setting roots in Raleigh, North Carolina. He worked for Cisco Systems for fifteen years before joining Worldwide Technologies in 2018 where he finished out his career as a Systems Engineering Manager selling technology to the U.S. Navy. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively, and he has often amazed his family when they would name countries and try to identify ones he hadn’t traveled to.
Mark’s personality was truly one-of-a-kind: He was both elegant and down-to-earth, funny yet serious, responsible yet adventurous, and as a manager at work easygoing yet no-nonsense. He is somewhat famous for saying “Blah blah blah” (let’s get down to business) during meetings. Despite his successes, he was humble and unpretentious.
Some of Mark’s favorite things to do included boating, grilling, and cooking fabulous meals at home with his wife, doing water sports with the kids, hosting parties, and participating in all of the family’s activities. From ROTC events to dance competitions, theatre and chorus performances, to being his wife’s “book pimp” at her launch parties and putting up with (enjoying!) innumerable foster pets she brought into their home, Mark was on board for it all. He loved doing renovations, and he and Lori renovated five homes together, including their lake residence in Virginia where they moved full-time after having it as a vacation home for more than a decade.
A funeral service followed by celebration of life luncheon will be held. All are welcome to attend either or both. Please be sure to RSVP for each, as only those on the guest lists will be admitted.
