Mark's obituary

Mark Stephen Fink was born on August 29th, 1959 in Baltimore, MD. He was the oldest of two children born to the late Stephen Nicholas Fink and Florence Mary Fink (née Dimler), also preceding him in death.

Mark attended Johnnycake Elementary school, then continued his education at Woodlawn High School where he graduated in 1977. As a young man he had many interests such as baseball, trains, music, camping and a love for animals. His plethora of interests played a big part in the way he would live the rest of his life.

Work was always an important aspect of Mark’s life. His work ethic and values are those to be emulated by others. He started his career at Sweetheart Cup Company in 1978 where he was a maintenance mechanic. Working with his hands and troubleshooting machines quickly became two of his strengths. Mark was also very handy, as well as creative, and could come up with unique solutions for almost everything.

In 1989 Mark became a loving father to his first and only daughter, Brittany Lynn. 5 years later in 1994 he became a proud parent again. This time to his first and only son, Brett Stephen. Throughout the years of being a parent, he always found time to do the things he was truly passionate about. He went on countless camping, biking and train watching trips with his close friends. Mark was someone who was always ready for an adventure, as long as he had his cup of hot coffee in hand.

While working at Sweetheart was his job, his childhood dream was to work for the railroad. After he decided he wanted to pursue that dream, he made it his reality in 1996. Shortly after working for CSX, he decided that being away from his family was too difficult. Once he returned from CSX, he worked at Sweetheart; which later became Solo Cup Company. In 2006, he met his loving partner of 16 years, Rosemary.

In 2007, Mark started working at Sherwin Williams in Beltsville, MD as a Maintenance Technician. While working at Sherwin Williams, he began another part time job at Reisterstown Veterinary Center on the weekends, caring for the cats and dogs. His compassion for animals lead him to adopt 3 cats. Mark eventually retired from Sherwin Williams in 2020 and was able to enjoy his free time. He went on several trips and was finally able to go to La Plata Missouri, which was one of the places he had always wanted to visit.

Unfortunately, in 2022 he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. He bravely fought and pushed through many months of treatment and was able to enjoy a final few trips with the people he loved. On December 16, 2022 at 11:45 p.m. Mark passed away peacefully at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Long View. Mark leaves behind his two children Brittany and Brett, his partner Rosemary and his brother Michael.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts. We would like to say thank you to all of the health care professionals that cared for Mark and guided him throughout his difficult journey. Their kindness and compassion will forever be appreciated.
