Mark David Erickson, 51, died suddenly on August 14th, 2021 in Red Wing, MN.

Mark was born on October 6, 1969, to Dave and Jan (Gommels) Erickson in Northfield, Minnesota. The family moved to Red Wing in 1973. Mark graduated with the class of 1988 from Red Wing Central High School. He attended college at both the University of Minnesota and Winona State.

From the time he was a young boy, Mark was an avid athlete and succeeded at any sport he tried. He especially excelled at running, and competed for the Red Wing Wingers track and cross country teams, and also in college. Mark enjoyed a career in software development, and spent many years as an independent contractor for various companies. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, and watching baseball, especially the New York Mets. Mark loved to make his sisters, nieces, and nephews laugh until they cried as he told stories of his childhood shenanigans with great animation and voiceover imitations. Anyone who knew Mark enjoyed his sense of humor.

Mark married Lisa Theis in 2004 and settled in Champlin, Minnesota where they raised their two children. They later divorced. In 2020, Mark moved back to Red Wing.

Mark’s greatest joy was becoming a father. He loved to teach his kids his favorite things in life; golf, his career in web development and his favorite movies. Whenever Mark and his son (Jack) were together they would create new handshakes that they would then reenact the next time they saw each other no matter who was around. Mark and his daughter (Kari) would tell each other stories about their lives, usually ending with both of them in tears of laughter.

Mark is survived by his former wife, Lisa Theis and their children, Kari (15) and Jack (11). He is also survived by his parents, Dave and Jan Erickson of Red Wing, MN; sister Laura (Scott) Lutjen of Red Wing, MN; sister Karen Harper of Cortland, IL; nine nieces and nephews and one great-nephew. Mark is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stanley and Marie Erickson, DeEtta Erickson; maternal grandparents Hicko and Gladys Gommels; uncles Mert Erickson, Jim Herbrandson, Sam Erickson, Ed Erickson, Don Gommels, Bob Gommels; brother-in-law John Harper.

If you, or someone you know, suffers from mental health issues, please talk to someone. And tell your loved ones every day that you love them.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Kari and Jack.
