I first saw Mark at Sambo’s restaurant in Loves Park in 1978 when I was applying for a job on January 1st. I didn’t actually “meet” him until my first day day on the job. Of course I thought he was cute as most 16-year-old girl might have. After a few days of working with him as a cook and me as a waitress, he would ask me from the other side of the counter when I was going to go out with him. Needless to say we had our first date within three weeks, and I probably fell in love with him before I turn 17 which was only three months. Love at first sight I guess. 🥰

What can I say about my big brother MARK! I would need to write a book, but in the meantime let me say this. Like all Atterburys his love of family was put above all other things on earth. When Mark and I were younger I was so proud of him! We were only a year apart, but for most of our early years he was at least a foot taller than me. He was always my protector if there was a bully around. One thing about Mark that some of the family and friends might not of known was this. He was a very big believer in justice and righteousness. If you were doing something wrong, he would remind of this and if that didn’t work, his fists always did. Man! Was he strong! Mark never started a fight, but he sure could finish them. I saw a lot of bullies start stuff with Mark and he ended all of them! Sometimes 2,3 at a time! He really was doing Gods work and straightening out a lot of lost kids. If I was ever in a war, I would want Mark right next to me in that fox hole! I would fight for him any day of the week! I miss you Mark, I love you and you’ll always be in my heart. ❤️
