In 1973, Mario and his family moved to Kansas City, MO, eventually finding their way to Corpus Christi, TX, a decade later. Despite the challenges along the way, Mario's strength and perseverance remained steadfast. He would later share the lessons he learned, imparting wisdom like, "Fear not! Be kind to others, learn to make lifelong friendships."

As a proud patriarch, Mario leaves behind a loving family. This includes his mother, Ofelia Lopez; brothers, Solomon and Claudio Lopez; sister, Cynthia Lopez; son, Jonathon Lopez; and daughter, Alyssa Tanner. He was predeceased by his father, Mario O. Lopez Sr.

A talented blues harmonica musician, Mario made significant contributions to the blues music scene. In 2023, he co-founded The Texas Coastal Bend Blues Society, Inc., where he also served as a committed volunteer. His last performance was on New Year's Eve 12/31/24 at the Retro, which remains a cherished memory for his fans.

His favorite book was the Bible, a testament to his strong faith. Among his favorite artists, Booker T., Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Bonamassa, Frank Butler, Otis Terrell, influenced his deep love for blues music.

Apart from music, Mario enjoyed spending time at the Rialto Theater in Aransas Pass, TX, one of his preferred weekend spots. Friends and family will remember him for his vibrant personality and his love for the harmonica, which manifested in his blues performances and recreational music sessions.

His legacy lives on through his music, his co-founded blues society, and the love he shared with his family and friends. Mario "Hambone" Lopez Jr. will forever be remembered as an outgoing, inspiring, and comical man who left an indelible mark on the world.
