Marilyn's obituary
Marilyn Florence Sachs, 81, peacefully on March 9th, 2017 after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late John R. Sachs, cherished mother of Carolyn Yuen (Bruce), John, and Jennifer Lofrumento (Joseph), adored grandmother of John and Katherine. 8Marilyn was born on December 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Adele Mahn.
She was graduated from the Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, New York, and went on to Mary Immaculate Nursing School, where she earned a Registered Nursing degree. Marilyn met the love of her life, John Richard Sachs, at a school dance at the Waldorf Astoria, and they were married on his completion of medical school. Their life together took them from New York City to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to New Haven, Connecticut, Silver Spring, Maryland, Long Island, New York, and back to New York City.
In addition to raising their three children, Marilyn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the Southern Connecticut State College, graduating magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science degree for Accounting from the Empire State College. Through the years Marilyn held positions as a surgical nurse in the Neurology department at Columbia University Medical Center, Special Auditor for Medicaid Fraud for New York State, real estate agent, museum docent, Girl Scout Leader, Youth Orchestra President, and President of the Board for the L’Isola Condominium in New York City. Marilyn loved to travel, and with her husband saw most of the world, especially enjoying trips to China, Russia, Japan, and Egypt. In later years she enjoyed spending time with her family at her homes in East Moriches, New York, and in Manhattan.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, John, and is survived by her children and her grandchildren. Her family takes comfort that she felt she had lived her life to the fullest, and that she truly enjoyed the journey. Final arrangements were private.
