Marilyn's obituary

Marilyn Johnson, born on October 20, 1954, in Picayune, MS and passed away on April 11, 2023 in Baton Rouge, La. A beloved mother, wife , friend, and colleague, she will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Marilyn graduated from Scotlandville High Baton Rouge, LA, USA in 1972. Marilyn married the love of her life Jefferson Johnson Jr. In May of 1986. Marilyn worked in the department of corrections (LCIW, LTI and JCCY) with the rank of lieutenant before retiring. She also worked as a Sales Associate at CVS and Bed Bath and Beyond, bringing her warmth and professionalism to the each job.

In her free time, Marilyn loved singing, cooking, and spending precious moments with her loved ones. Her hobbies allowed her to express her creativity and connect with others in a way that only she could. She was known for her exceptional ability to bring people together and create lasting memories in the process.

Marilyn's loving, understanding, witty, amazing, and admirable personality touched the lives of many people. Her unwavering support and empathy for others made her someone that people could always turn to in times of need.

She had a passion for life that was contagious and brought joy to everyone around her. Her warm, caring nature nurtured deep bonds with family and friends, who will cherish memories of her laughter, wisdom, and the love she shared with them.

She is survived by her daughter, Sara Johnson, son, Lawrence Sanford, grandson’s Brandon Sanford and Donae Sanford and Granddaughter’s Toryn Franklin, Tailyn Franklin, Tameah Franklin and Tiana Franklin who was at the center of Marilyn's world. They will carry on her legacy of love, compassion, and strength in the face of adversity.

As a wonderful mother and grandmother she provided love, support, and guidance to her children and grandchildren ensuring that the values and lessons she learned would be passed down to future generations. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and determination that will not be forgotten.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband Jefferson Johnson Jr., son Toi D. Sanford and father Leon Sanford.

The world has lost a beautiful soul in Marilyn Johnson, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.
