Marilyn J. (Goodwin) Koch, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with family at her side, following a valiant fight with Alzheimer’s. Born in Grand Forks, ND on May 28,1933, she was one of six children. She attended Grand Forks Central High School, where she was involved in Tri-Y, Chorus, Operetta, Hall Patrol and GAA (Girl’s Athletics), and graduated in 1951. She called Minnesota home for most of her life and also spent many years in Flagstaff, Sedona and Phoenix, AZ. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Jerri Haaven of Lake Stevens, WA, and sons Jay Haaven of Lake Stevens, WA and Jon Haaven of Tybee Island, GA. Her three grandchildren, Joshua (Leslie), Noah (Shawna), and Jessy were her pride and joy, and she loved and adored her six great-grandchildren Treyten, Kenadie, Maxen, Caleb, Sienna and Maddox. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her surviving brother, Walter Goodwin, her sister-in-law Shirley Goodwin, and God-Daughter, Jenny (Wade) Heinz. She is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Marion Goodwin, and siblings Ellen (Scott), Donald (Arlene), Eugene (June) and Daniel (Shirley). Marilyn was a voracious reader and loved music. If she didn’t have a book in her hands, she had the radio or a CD playing of her favorite music. Late in life, she was thrilled to sing in the Chancel Choir at Christ Presbyterian Church, in Edina, MN with her daughter, Jerri. Marilyn will always be remembered for her gift of laughter that often resulted in a good old snort, her generous spirit and putting her family first. She loved being a mom, a grandma and great-grandma, and a special auntie to so many. She was a patriot, her family’s rock, their ever present cheerleader, and guiding light. Due to Covid, a small graveside service will be held 15 January at 2pm., at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, 8601 Riverview Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290. A memorial and celebration of life will be held sometime this Summer in MN. Details pending.
