Marilyn's obituary
Marilyn Brenneis, an outgoing, warm, and happy woman who was born on February 28, 1947, sadly passed away on September 1, 2025. Marilyn was an ebullient spirit, whose love for her family, animals, and community was reflected in every facet of her life. She was a strong, thoughtful, and caring woman who believed in the power of showing up for others.
Throughout her career, Marilyn set a remarkable example for many. In 1975, she began serving the community at the Denver Sherriff's Department, where she made history as the first female Captain. Her dedication and hard work led her to the pinnacle of her career until her retirement in 2003. Her professional journey was not just a career; it was a testament to her fearless spirit.
Apart from her professional accomplishments, Marilyn was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the Quilting Club in Sequim, Washington, the Best Friends Rescue Volunteers, and the Horse Riding Club in Wickenberg. Her creativity shone in her crafty creations, and her love for animals was evident in her volunteering efforts.
Marilyn's legacy will live on through her deep compassion for animals in need, her commitment to her community, and her love for her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Brenneis; her father, Elvin Ferrell; mother, Lorraine Risha; and brother, Jeff Ferrell. She leaves behind her adoring daughter, Cathleen Ferguson, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, along with the many family members and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
Memories of Marilyn will be enriched by her vibrant personality, her invaluable life lessons, and her unflinching courage. She will always be remembered for her love for animals, especially her dogs, her creativity, and her caring and thoughtful nature. Her joyous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
