There’s never been someone I’ve known who emitted as much joy as you did. Your energy was contagious and your strength was so admirable. I remember driving from Washington to Colorado with you because I was worried about you driving by yourself after grandpa died. What I learned on that trip was that I was way overmatched and not only did you not need me along, you probably did more to protect me than I did you. You have helped shape the person I am and I will always be so grateful for all that you were to me and my family. I’m also grateful that you don’t disown me after I called your fried chicken, the worst I ever tasted. Your love and spirit will live on with all of those whose lives you touched. Miss you.

My oldest memory with you is on your farm in Kiowa, helping you and Grandpa feed your horses. As a child I remember thinking it was so cool that my grandma had so many horses. I still remember Mom telling me you guys had moved to Washington, only for us to follow you years later. To this day whenever someone asks why I moved here, the answer is always “because my grandma lived here”. I don’t know if I believe in heaven, but I hope you are somewhere on a beautiful farm with Grandpa and all your doggies and other animals you loved so much. We will miss you dearly.
