Marie's obituary
We mourn the loss of Marie Sage, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, who passed away on November 1, 2023. Born on November 15, 1970, to Janice and Frank Hornbuckle, Marie was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and unending care for everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Marie graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1988 and later earned her degree from Western Illinois University in 2001. In 1993, she married the love of her life, Rick Sage. Their marital bliss was further amplified by the birth of their three daughters Elizabeth, Melissa, and Alexis. They also found joy in their son-in-law Quinton Evans. Moving to Normal, Illinois in 2001, Marie relished in being surrounded by her loving family. She had a vibrant professional life, serving the community through her efforts at Schnucks for over 20 years and later as a dedicated teacher.
Marie was blessed with two grandchildren: her grandson Eian Evans and her granddaughter Sage Evans. Nothing gave her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and daughters. These were the moments that she cherished the most. Her family was her world, and she was theirs.
She was a lover of art with a particular fondness for the works of Vincent van Gogh. Marie also enjoyed watching movies like Ferris Buller's Day Off, The Great Outdoors, and 13 Going on 30. She enjoyed a trip to watch the St. Louis Cardinals. Her favorite music included tunes such as My Maria and Black Horse and The Cherry Tree. Her favorite colors mirrored her vibrant personality with purple at the forefront.
Marie's zest for life was infectious. She had a bubbly personality and a heart big enough to love everyone around her. She enjoyed going to concerts and planning family trips. Her favorite vacation spots were Michigan, Florida, and Colorado. However, no matter where she went, her kindness, caring, and thoughtful nature made these places feel even more special.
Marie is survived by her loving family: her husband Rick, her daughters Elizabeth, Melissa, Alexis, and son-in-law Quinton, her mother Janice, father Frank, her sisters Sarah and Teresa Hornbuckle, and her grandchildren Eian and Sage. She leaves behind many friends and relatives who loved her dearly. Her life was a testament to kindness and generosity, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Marie will be profoundly missed. Her spirit, love, and the memories she shared with us will forever be a reminder of the beautiful person she was. Rest in peace, Marie.
