Marianne's obituary
Marianne Butts (nee Choklus), of Winfield, Indiana passed away on October 25, 2023, in her home after a brief illness.
Marianne was born on April 7, 1938 to John and Mary Choklus in East Chicago, Indiana. Upon graduating from Bishop Noll Institute in 1956, Marianne began her career as a stenographer at Inland Steel in Chicago, Illinois. She then dedicated herself full time to her growing family in 1959. She returned to Inland Steel’s East Chicago office in 1973, working as a secretary until 1983.
Marianne is survived by her loving husband, James M. Butts, whom she married on March 26, 1977. She is also survived by her son, William Scott; her daughters, Cynthia (Donald) Saylor and Deborah (Tom) Maxwell; and her stepchildren Allen Butts and Kimberly Pierce. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Stacie (Michael) Weiss, Donald Saylor, and Kathleen Maxwell. Marianne’s legacy continues through her two great-grandchildren, Andrew Weiss and Alison Weiss.
Marianne was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kristen Saylor; daughter-in-law JoAnn Scott; parents John and Mary Choklus; and brother John M. Choklus.
In addition to her professional and family life, Marianne shared her passion for travel with her husband, James. They explored the world through general aviation flights from Griffith Airport, embarked on RV adventures to Florida, and enjoyed numerous cruises together.

Marianne will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and pets. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories that will be remembered forever. Services and internment will be private.
