Marian's obituary
Marian Elizabeth Prather passed away on June 29th, 2022 at Providence Saint Peters Hospital in Olympia, Washington with her husband, Pat, lovingly by her side. She was 75 years old. Marian was born in April 1947 in Newton, MA, the second child and only daughter of Palmerino and Elvira (Badia) Scarsella. Marian grew up in Newton, MA, graduating in the class of 1965 from Sacred Heart High School. Marian was a cheerleader and known for her moves on the dance floor, winning couples competitions at many of her high school dances. Marian studied Teaching at Framingham State College from 1965—1969 where she earned her bachelor’s degree and continued to work as an Elementary school teacher.
During her college years, Marian worked making modular electronic devices on the assembly line at Analog Devices in Norwood, MA. She soon discovered that her passion lay not in education but in the business world where she could utilize her professional skills and natural ability with people. Marian worked for Analog Devices for over 35 years, quickly working her way into management and planning, where she found great career fulfillment and made several lasting friendships. It was during the early days of working at Analog that Marian met and began dating her husband, Pat. In the Spring of 1978, Marian moved to Moergestel, Netherlands, where she and Pat happily resided for three years. During this time, Marian and Pat traveled throughout Europe, making friendships and memories together that would last a lifetime. Marian and Pat were married on July 14, 1979, at the Historic Old North Church in Downtown Boston, MA surrounded by family and friends.
In the Fall of 1982, Marian and Pat moved to Lakeville, MA, and were blessed with their first child, Carl, in April of the following year. In Sept 1984 their daughter, Yvonne, was born. In 1985, Marian and Pat purchased a summer cottage in West Dennis, MA where they enjoyed spending weekends and vacation time, making many happy family memories over the years.
Marian retired in September 2017 from Philips-Lightolier in Fall River, MA, where she worked as a Senior Planner for 15 years. After residing in Massachusetts for over 70 years, In January 2021 Marian and Pat moved across the country to Dupont, WA. Marian enjoyed spending her final years with her daughter’s family, especially her granddaughter, Juniper. Marian held great pride in her work and in her family, whom she loved more than anything.
Marian is predeceased by her mother and father, Palmerino and Elvira Scarsella of Wareham, MA, and her son, Carl Paul Prather of Lakeville, MA. Beloved sister of John and Carlo Scarsella. Cherished mother of Yvonne Mall and husband Brandon of Fort Leonard Wood, MO, loving stepmother of Guy Prather and wife, Janice, of Winthrop, MA, and Zach Prather, of Phoenix, AZ. Devoted “Nonni” to grandchildren Juniper and Rowan Mall, and Devyn and Elijah Prather.
A Joint Celebration of Life for Marian and her son Carl will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 2:00 pm in West Dennis, MA, where we will scatter their ashes on the shores of Nantucket Sound, as were both of their wishes. The ceremony will be followed by food and refreshments at our family cottage nearby. If traveling and wishing to stay overnight, we recommend booking a hotel in West Dennis, or in the neighboring towns of Hyannis, or Yarmouth.
