Maria Briggs, affectionately known as “Mama”, was born to the late Stephen Briggs and Frances Lagban on October 3, 1929, in Sasstown Montserrado County, Liberia West Africa. Mama moved to the United States in 1995 to New Jersey where she resided until her passing.

Mama is survived by her brother Ernest, her children: Florence Amanda (m. Samuel T. Jr.), Eric (m. Melvina), Thomas Rueben (m. Diana), William (m. Fatmata), Jacob (m. Miatta), Bennier, McArthur, and predeceased by her son Charles; her twenty-four grandchildren including: Monica, Marie, Samuel B., Jackie, Michael, Alex, Tunde, Sonnie, Johanna, Wilnier, Charles A., Marial, Israel, Israeline, Willomena, Tumare, William T., Samuel T. III, Hannah, and predeceased by her grandson Kenneth; her nine great-grandchildren including: Margaret, Conrad, Christian, Marie, Rachel (Amanda), Ruth, and Marlene; two great-great grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews including Pinky and Geraldine
