Background
October 17, 2003 Maria suffered a stroke due to an aneurysm in a previously unknown arteriovenous malformation (AVM,) leaving her with hemiparalysis that would last the rest of her life. The AVM was inoperable due to its location, meaning that it couldn't be repaired or removed and that it could bleed again at any time. One thing we learned, that a lot of people dont know, is that time from stroke onset to start of treatment determines the extent of brain loss. (Time loss = Brain loss.) We also learned that most people aren't familiar with the warning signs of a stroke. American Stroke Association's mission is to bring awareness and research to improve the outcome for stroke victims and prevent brain loss.
