The first time I met Mari Uncle John and I had been dating for about 4 months.  She came to my dorm room to talk to John about something.  I think she was with their Dad.  While John and his Dad talked, she followed me into my bedroom and told me that she was so glad that John found me.  She said she wanted us to be friends and gave me a friendship bracelet as a token of her feelings.  I was incredibly touched.  I have never forgotten that moment.  I think Mari and I were very much alike in some ways.  And so I believe this wasn't a casual or easy action on her part.  It is a memory I will always treasure.

Holy crap! That sucks big time. I’m so sorry Mark. Love you. And please reach out to me if you want. If I find any pictures of Mari as Best Man at my wedding, I’ll put them up. Dang.
I am Mari’s mother, and and I want to thank all of you who have responded to this website. It has been wonderful to remember and learn about how  important she has been in all of our lives, forever bound in our ongoing love of her. Keep up your good work in yourselves and others in her name.  Toots and Bill

Happy birthday in heavens to my birthday-mate. Mari, you have been in my thoughts and prayers.

May your memory be a blessing to your family.

Dear Mark, Fiona and Maeve,

We just learned of and are so saddened to hear of Mari’s passing. We are incredibly sorry for your loss and you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mari was one of the warmest, kindest and friendliest Lab parents and neighbors with the most beautiful and sparkling smile. We were blessed to know her. We are sending you our sincerest sympathy. May her memory be a blessing.

Sincerely,

Lynn and Marissa Page

Dear Mark, Maeve, Fiona and Mari's extended family,

Continuing to hold you in our thoughts and prayers. Hope time brings healing, and in time Mari's memory brings smiles, not tears.

All of us who have lost loved ones can perhaps relate to the following words by David Harkins:

you can shed tears that she is gone

or you can smile because she has lived

you can close your eyes and pray that she will come back

or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

your heart can be empty because you can’t see her

or you can be full of the love that you shared

you can remember her and only that she is gone

or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

you can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

With deepest sympathy,

Memoona, Ehsan, Hassan and Farooq

Mari will always remain in my heart and my memory as the kind. gentle person who welcomed my son Julian to her home and made him feel like he was part of the family. We love people who love our kids and that's why I will always be very grateful to Mari for being so kind and having that big heart. We will all miss her tremendously. She was taken from us way too soon but her spirit will live in Maeve and Fiona, her two wonderful daughters.

Mark, Fiona and Maeve,

We’re thinking of you today as you celebrate Mari’s life.  We extend our deepest sympathies for your loss.

Sincerely,

Your neighbors Anne & Nicolas

Mari told me how pleased her dad was when she started working at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. I noted we were equally grateful for her presence on the family medicine residency faculty. Mari's positive energy filled the room s soon as she entered. Knowledgeable in many areas, she offered wise observations, riveting discussions, provocative questions, and implementable solutions. Mari was someone you could count on for a hug, laughter, and support. I was blessed to have worked with her for five years. While her absence echoes in the hole she left in my heart, I am filling it with beautiful memories. I imagine you are, too. My deepest sympathy and condolences to you, Mark, Maeve, and Fiona. With love, Lisa

Thinking about her family with a very heavy heart. Always my favorite customers at the Medici, near their house, I got to watch Fiona and Maeve grow up while working there.  They are the tightest family, Marks love for her always so apparent, and hers for them.

I’ll never forget holding each other tight and sobbing when our friend and my coworker Charles was killed. She’s a sensitive soul, I believe she felt everything very deeply, and wasn’t afraid to show it. I hope they are having a good laugh together, like they always did. She has been an inspiration to me, and I know I’m not the only one. Mari will be deeply missed.

All my love and prayers,

Kelly Hayward
