Margaret's obituary
Margaret Mary Zimmerman, 59, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, passed away on January 6, 2026, at her home in Schenectady, New York. She was born on June 30, 1966.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Jay Zimmerman, and her uncle, Jerry Zimmerman. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jasmine; her siblings, Sara, Phillip, and Esther; her nieces, Samantha, Alexandra, and Briana; her nephews, Ayman, Omar, and Jacobe; and her partner, John.
Though Margaret faced mental and cognitive challenges that prevented her from formal employment, she possessed a deep desire to help others. Driven by her natural compassion, she dreamed of becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. In many ways, her most meaningful role was that of a parent—one she fulfilled with great love.
She found joy in life’s simple comforts, such as watching Hogan’s Heroes and various movies, always with a Coca-Cola No Sugar nearby—a habit for which she was well-known and often joked about.
A Roman Catholic, Margaret held her faith quietly and personally. She read her Bible, carried her rosary beads, and attended church when she could. She never imposed her beliefs on others, choosing instead to live with quiet devotion and respect.
Details regarding a celebration of life will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to YWCA Domestic Violence Services.
Margaret will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her perseverance, and the deep love she had for those closest to her.
