Background

Midge was a long time supporter of Friends of Ngong Road based in Nairobi, Kenya. She had many children she was dedicated to helping and she loved them all very much. Donations to Friends of Ngong Road will help children who have the ability to succeed receive support in education, safety and well being, and a supportive community.

Midge was a proud vegan who also supported Farm Sanctuary. Farm Sanctuary fights the disastrous effects of animal agriculture on animals, the environment, social justice, and public health through rescue, education, and advocacy.

  • What is the history of your organization?

Friends of Ngong Road was founded in 2006 by Paula Meyer after a family trip to Kenya. During that trip, she met Pastor Peter Ndungu, who had recently returned to Kenya after completing a Master’s Degree at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. Peter was serving a congregation in the area known as the Dagoretti slums of Nairobi and was disturbed by the number of children who could not attend school because their parents and/or guardians lacked the money for their school and related costs.
Paula founded Friends of Ngong Road (FoNR), a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) in order to fundraise for Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF), a registered Kenyan NGO of which Paula and Peter were co-founders. The two organizations operate with a shared mission, principles, and values. We hold a deep belief in the value of education and the transformation it can bring.
