Margaret Smith Herman, born on April 16, 1933, was a radiant force of unwavering love and kindness. A dedicated caretaker for countless individuals, she embodied extraordinary strength, grace, and a vibrant spirit, pouring her boundless heart into her beloved family, friends, and community. Her infectious laughter and warm wit had a special way of making everyone feel seen and loved.
Margaret's love was most beautifully expressed through her cooking. The kitchen was the heart of her home, where a seemingly bottomless pot fed neighbors and family. Her iconic soul food and pound cakes weren't just meals; they were a love language that nourished the soul and united people. Her family is eternally grateful for the recipes shared,
ensuring a piece of her spirit lives on in every dish.

Church, Sis. Herman gave her life to Christ and raised her children to know the Lord. She served faithfully on multiple auxiliaries, including the missionary, choir, and prayer band circle, and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Lena Smith; her husband, Carl C. Herman; her siblings, Queen Smith, Lucille Allen (Ottawa), James Smith, Willie Smith (Rosetta), John Smith (Rosie), Madeline Shivers (George), Althastein Nettles, May Montgomery; and her grandson, Larry Herman.
She is survived by her children, Maecheryl Herman White, Marguerita Harris (Michael), Carl C. Herman Jr. (Sheryl), and Jimmy Herman, all of Mobile, AL. Her grandchildren, Melissa Green (Darrell), Austin, TX;
Kimberly Brown (LaKendrick); Marguerita Harris; Sherlandra M. Adam's (Reuben); Kimberly Jordan; Deana Nicholson, Jimmy Lee Herman Jr., Blakelyn Gilmore, Bryson Lymon, Youcarra Calhoun, Shawana Calhoun & Tarayll Mosley Jr., all of Mobile, AL; and Lawonda Jordan (Birmingham, AL). Her great-grandchildren, Nola Green (Austin, TX), Kelcie Brown, Kyrie Brown, Serenity Nicholson, Quashawn Nicholson, Kaleb Jordan, all of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and her church family.
Her spirit will forever live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her example.
