Margaret's obituary
Margaret Ann Pastore (nee Killean), recently of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed from this earthly life on December 30, 2022. Affectionately known as Peggy, she was born on March 22, 1932, in the Bronx, New York. Highly intelligent, and a gifted student, Peggy graduated from the prestigious Hunter College High School in Manhattan, New York, and entered the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.
After graduating nursing school in 1953, Peggy went on to practice as a Registered Nurse for 45 years, earning a reputation as a dedicated, sincere, and compassionate caregiver. She retired in 1998, from her final professional posting as the Home Health Care Aide Coordinator at Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA.
In 1953, as a member of the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing Year Book Literary Committee, Peggy published a letter to future nursing students in that year’s year book. Now, at the time of her passing, the following excerpt, in her own words, seems unexpectedly appropriate.
“Yes, today, we are glad that we are finished or, more correctly, we are glad that we are beginning. We are proud, for we have struggled to attain this goal. We are humble, because we have seen courage, and faith, and love stand before hopeless illness. We are sad, for we leave behind us friends, loved andcherished dearly.”
Peggy is predeceased by her parents: Michael J. Killean and Mary Killean (nee Doupe), and by her brothers: Thomas, Michael and James. She is survived by her four sons: Charles L. Pastore, Jr., of Brick, New Jersey; Mathias M. Pastore, of Chester, Virginia; Christian R. Pastore, of Rome, Italy; and A. Bradford Pastore, of Brentwood, Tennessee; by her daughters-in-law, Mary Anne Pastore and Christine Pastore; by her ten grandchildren: Noah, Charlie, Collin, Eric, Conrad, Nico, Abigail, Owen, Ella and Audrey; and by her grand-dog, Tank. Peggy is also survived by nursing school classmates and lifelong friends: Edna Sinnott, Ellen Jean Dwyer, and Mary Gallagher; with whom she maintained a loving friendship that she treasured for more than 70 years.
