Peggy's obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Lillian (Parks) Eichelberger departed this life for her heavenly home on Sunday morning, November 26, 2023, at the age of 83. She passed away at home surrounded by all her immediate family: her husband of nearly 62 years, James LeRoy Eichelberger, her two sons Chris (Colleen) and Jeff (Allison) and four grandchildren: Leah, James, Katie, and Titus. She is also survived by her brother Dick (Karen) Parks, sister Kay Koop, and sister-in-law Gratice Albrecht and her many nephews and nieces (Christa, Gretchen, Curt, Carson, Mike, Rich, Karen, and Dave) She was preceded in death by her parents, “Pete and Betty” Parks. Peggy is most remembered for her genuine smile and kindness. She had a unique ability to make people feel special and made every interaction with people positive. Everyone agrees that you always felt loved after being in her presence, whether it was a friend of thirty years or a cashier after thirty seconds.
Peggy was born on August 27, 1940, in Council Bluffs, IA. She grew up in Excelsior, MN and graduated from Minnetonka High School. She then attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in Biology in 1962. She taught elementary school PE and Science for three years in Burlington, IA. She married Jim on December 28, 1961. After raising her children, Peggy worked for North Central Technical College in Wausau, WI in their International Student Exchange program, placing students from Central America in host homes while they studied at the college. When she moved to Racine, WI, she worked for the Girl Scouts for over seven years in a variety of roles.
Over the years Peggy was constantly involved in church and community volunteer activities. Her church activities included choir, hand bells, teaching children's Sunday School, Mother’s Day Out and Bible Study Fellowship. Her community activities included Meals on Wheels, Preservation Racine, and a local food bank.
Peggy pursued a number of hobbies over the course of her life, but her favorites were those that were outdoors, involved other people, or snow: ice skating, skiing, golf, tennis, roller blading, book club, and travelling.
