Margaret Helen Chitty, formerly Vakil, née Shechmeister, passed away peacefully at home on May 27th, 2024 at 81. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Bryan Shechmeister.
Born in Berkeley, California, Margaret came of age in Carbondale, Illinois, where her father taught microbiology at Southern Illinois University. She returned to the city of her birth to study Sociology at the University of California, graduating in 1965, and later went on to earn her …
