Marcus's obituary
Marcus Dean Crocker, born in Norfolk, Virginia, left this world with the same courage and strength that he carried throughout his life. He was a man who faced challenges head-on, surviving both diabetes and cancer, and proving time and again that his spirit was stronger than any obstacle.
Marcus was more than his battles—he was a father, a stepfather, a grandfather, a veteran, and a man who gave his love without hesitation. He was the proud father of James Dean and Tera Dean, and the devoted stepfather of Tamara Barksdale and Tevin Barksdale. His six grandchildren brought light to his days, and he poured into them the same love, wisdom, and strength that carried him through life.
His time serving as a veteran shaped him into a man of honor, discipline, and quiet pride. But it was his role as a father and grandfather that defined him most. Marcus had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. His family was his greatest treasure, and every smile, every story, every shared moment became part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Marcus will be remembered for his resilience, his humor that could brighten the darkest days, and the unwavering love he gave to those around him. Though he has gone on, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and all who had the blessing of knowing him.
A funeral service to honor Marcus’s life will be held at Bethel Grove AME Church on Tuesday, August 19th, at 4:00 PM. The arrangements are entrusted to Floyd Funeral Home.
