She was born Marcia Arlene Gilles in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, to Maurice Simeon Gilles and Jane H Zychowski (Nee: Helena-Janina Zychowska). Marcia grew up surrounded by a large, extended, multilingual family, with many cousins on both her French father's and Polish mother's sides.
