Marcy Secor-Harrington, 62, of Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024 in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Chicago on November 18, 1961 to Horatio and Mary Grace Secor. A woman of great intelligence, adventurous spirit, and thoughtful nature, Marcy enriched the lives of those around her with her listening ear, winning smile, and healing power.

Marcy had a rich and varied career starting early as a Candy Striper at Holy Cross Hospital while attending Maria High School in Chicago. She graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1983 with a major in Exercise Physiology and minors in Journalism and Art. After receiving her M.S. in Exercise Physiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation in 1987, she worked at UIC Hospital as a Cardiac Rehabilitation Technical Director and briefly at Swedish Covenant Hospital in cardiac rehabilitation. Marcy later joined the U.S. Peace Corps in Jamaica as a First Aid and CPR instructor until hurricane Gilbert cut her program short. Thereafter she traveled widely, from Calgary, Canada, to Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia. In 1994, she moved to Denver, CO and ventured into real estate before moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she worked as a rental manager, charter chef and stewardess, and sales representative. In 2003, after moving to Sarasota, FL, Marcy became a Licensed Massage Therapist, and continued to offer a healing hand to the community for 20 years.

A loving and devoted mother to twins, Marcy’s family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her twins Michael and Danielle Daly and their father, Jerry Daly, as well as her beloved dog Sammy. The youngest of ten children, Marcy is also survived by her beloved siblings Arthur (the late Margret) Secor, William Secor, Patricia (the late Anthony) LoCoco , Thomas Secor, Kathleen Secor Losos (Tony) , Marian Secor Keenan (the late Gerald), Michael (Debbie) Secor, and Elizabeth Secor Smid (Tom). She is predeceased by sister Anne Secor (Thomas Fallon)  and parents Horatio and Mary Secor (née Panzica). She was a fond aunt and great aunt to her nieces and nephews, and loyal and loving friend to many.

Marcy embodied a vibrancy that touched all aspects of her life. She led an active life, completing the Chicago Marathon in 1985 and 1986. She loved hiking and was particularly fond of Ram’s Head Trail in St. John, where she has requested her ashes be spread. She loved being near the ocean, whether that be sunset walks at Lido Beach or snorkeling in the Caribbean. She was a long-time member of Selby Gardens and Mote Marine, where her family plan to make memorial gifts to honor her.

She faithfully kept up with friends and family around the world with timely cards and heartfelt conversations, remembering details of their lives they had forgotten. Though we may not have her superb memory, we encourage you to share your memories and photos of Marcy on the memorial website.

Marcy endured her colon cancer with composure and dignity in the face of unrelenting discomfort. Her strong spirit and loving nature will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
