When I think of Dem Two Hands, I think of Marcella. I always looked forward to seeing her there when I was shopping; she had the best "eye" for styles that would look good on someone. She was a friendly, fun, person. I'm so sad that she's no longer with us.
I was so saddened when I learned Marcella had passed. I wasn’t shopping because of Covid so I was unaware until recently. I knew Marcella from Dem Two Hands. She was a larger than life person, a joy to be around and a person who made all her customers feel special in her presence. I will continue to shop at my favorite clothing store but Marcella’s cheerful greeting, witty remarks, infectious smile and her tasteful suggestions to suit my style will be sorely missed. I was so saddened to learn of Marcella’s passing last year and so very honored to be included in the virtual memorial to celebrate her life. I met Marcella many years ago at Dem Two Hands. She always took care of me, knew my preferences, and was always honest about what did (and did not) work for me! She would often call me at home to let me know when new pieces I would like had arrived at the store. She was feisty, fiery, honest, a good person, and sharp. I loved her laughter and her insistence to “try this!” She was often right about her selections for me. I miss that, “you look fierce in that outfit” which always provided a boost to my ego.
To Marcella’s family and friends, I am sincerely sorry for your loss and I am sending heartfelt virtual hugs, love, and prayers for continued comfort and strength. I trust that whenever you think of Marcella, you will always smile. ❤️🙏🏽
Marcella had an Amazing memory. I could say who was 'Burty Dummit"!! Her Grandfather and her Father absolutely adored her. She was a poser, and loved taking pictures. I always remember her first communion picture and her birthday pictures! she looked so Angelic! she used to select clothes for Daddy to wear. I was her Back up , And I was never surprised when someone came to the gate at the house in Belair gdns," looking for her." I would say to her what did you do? she would say don't worry about that, just say anything, I'me not here! she had lots of friends everywhere! We had fun in London with the gang at Andre Parker's flat in Earls court. Many Good times in Toronto at Duane and Sandy's. Crazy times in Montreal that I'll never forget. Her friends in Commack Ny used to say are you Marcella's brother! Then she moved to the house in Huntington Ny, and she worked at Bloomingdale's.I used to drive from Pensacola to Ft Lauderdale for the weekend. 10 hrs 1 way. It was worth it just to see her and have fun.She was a great story teller!! We are all missing you.
I only knew Marcella through the shop, but always looked forward to her enthusiastic advice. She had such a warm and giving nature and I smile when I think about emerging from the dressing room and hearing her exclaim, "You look fierce!" Deepest condolences to Marion as well as all her friends and family. May Marcella's spirit rest in peace.
I am shocked and saddened by this loss. I would go into the store a few times a year for items to wear to various conferences. Marcella had impeccable taste.
To the family just know that she was a wonderful, caring person and will be missed deeply. Be gentle to yourselves.
It is rare to find a person who is so completely unforgettable - her laugh, smile, endless energy and generosity were a rare gift to anyone who got to know her. She left an indelible imprint on all of us, thanks Marcella!
When Marcella left Guyana in 1971 (I think) a couple of years before me, I was so sad. We were very close and spent a lot of time together growing up in Georgetown. Even had a few escapades in London....This was before the time of What’s app, and internet and even before you made long distance calls easily! So we lost touch and two years later when I moved to New York, a most amazing thing happened to me....sitting on the grass at a huge concert in Central Park, I hear loud and clear...EHEH! Donna Reed what you doing here!!!??? No planning, no contact for two years then .......More stories later about our time together in NYC after that. Marcella was a great friend, a partner in discovery and we grew up together to become the strong women we became. I miss her.
My deepest sympathy to Dem Two Hands family. Marcella knew what I liked and recommend outfits for me. I am at a lost. I missed her when I was there in October. Great conversations we had. You will be missed.Blessings,
