Manny's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mansfield "Manny" Walker, who departed this life on May 17, 2023. Mansfield, who preferred his given name but was affectionately known as Manny to his loved ones, was born on March 28, 1941.
Mansfield will be fondly remembered for his remarkable personality. He was warm and friendly with everyone he met, always seeking to brighten the lives of those around him with his contagious sense of humor and genuine kindness. His generosity of spirit endeared him to those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him to live with love, compassion, and a zest for life.
Mansfield (Manny) Walker was born in Longview, Texas on March 28, 1941. His mother was Viola and his father was Whitfield. He was married to Sharon Garrett for 37 years.
His first wife was Yvonne Walker. They had one daughter, Yevette Walker.
He had three grandchildren, Tiara Calkins, Renia West, and Ricardo West Jr. and he had three great-grandchildren, Amarae Calkins,
Ameir Strohman, and Maya Williams.
He attended Mission High School in San Francisco, California where he played football.
Manny joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. After the war he worked as a manager for the United
States Postal Service and the Army Reserves. In the military he worked up to the rank of Master Sargent.
After the active duty phase in the Army, he spent many years in the Army Reserves. Manny worked his way up to operations manger at
the San Francisco office of the United States Postal Service. After retiring he worked for Hertz Rental Car Company because he loved driving those cars.
His passion for the Browns football team was obvious to everyone who knew him. He was a loyal and faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns his whole life and cheered them on as a member of the SF Bay Area Brown’s Backers. He travelled back to Cleveland, Ohio every year to attend a game. He had many friends there.
Manny was a model trains enthusiast. There was at least one train in every room of the house.
Until his final illness he attended New Hope Baptist Church in OAKLAND, CA. He was a long and faithful member who worked in the church as a Deacon.
He was one of a kind.
We will all miss him.
Throughout his life, Mansfield embodied a true appreciation for the beauty of the world around him and valued the importance of fostering strong connections with family and friends. His commitment to being present in the lives of his loved ones, celebrating their accomplishments, and providing unwavering support in times of need exemplified a life dedicated to lifting others up.
