Malcolm's obituary
Malcolm David Robbins of Portland, Oregon, left us suddenly and peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022, at the age of 82. Mally was born in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia, Africa on December 8, 1939 to Thomas John and Doris Robbins. The family immigrated from Wales to Northern Rhodesia before he was born. Mal attended boarding school and East London Technical College in South Africa followed by auto mechanic apprenticeship on the Luanshya Copper mine. He met his future wife, Dawn Heather Charlton in Kitwe, whom he married on September 22, 1962. Mal passed away just 17 days before their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mal and Dawn immigrated to the United States in May of 1966 with their two daughters, Dyneen Val and Andrea Lyn, when they were 2 years old and 2 months old. They joined Mal’s brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Sylvia Robbins, in Los Angeles, CA, where they raised their girls until October of 1980 when Mal accepted a job relocation to Portland, OR. Mal & Dawn had just moved from their home of 42 years to an assisted living facility in Forest Grove, OR, in June of this year. Mal had a huge heart and was always bringing strangers home and adopting them. By the time we moved from California to Oregon, we left a lot of “family members” behind.
Mal spent his career in the automotive industry as an Automotive Mechanic, Service Manager and District Service Rep for Jaguar and Honda. Amongst his accomplishments with Honda and Jaguar, he was recognized as the Top Technical Representative in the Nation for two years. He also had his own business as a Technical Rep for Ford with Roan Automotive where he spent lots of time working in Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. Mal retired in 2011 and enjoyed wood working projects in his shop and spending time with his faithful companions Patchy, Charlie and Shadow - the dogs he so loved over the years.
Mal is predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald George Robbins. Mal is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Robbins, his daughters, Dyneen “Denny” & Ron Polluconi of Portland, Oregon, and Andrea “Andie” & David Smith of Kent, WA. Grandchildren, Kirstyn & Adam Beyer of Bend, OR, Kevin & Lindsay Hehn of Cornelius, OR, Riley and Sarah Smith of Kodiak, AK and Sawyer Smith of Phoenix, AZ. Five great-grandsons, Aiyden John & Luca Roy Beyer, Kayden James & Kaleb Alan Hehn and Callum Lee Smith. His sister-in-law Sylvia “Snooky” Robbins, niece Cheryl Robbins and nephew Michael Robbins.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Worship Center, 6550 SE Alexander St, in Hillsboro, OR.
