Madelyn's obituary

Madelyn Campbell Knight, age 91, died Wednesday, February 15, 2023. She was married to Glen Knight for 64 years prior to his death in 2020. Madelyn's greatest joys included her family and friends, church, community service, and summer beach trips to Cherry Grove. She loved sharing meals and special occasions with her family and her Supper Club. Madelyn was a passionate public school teacher for more than 30 years, most of which were for H.B. Rhame Elementary (formerly known as St. Andrews Elem.). She demonstrated her Christian faith by teaching Sunday School, leading many church committees, helping with VBS, and gladly giving her time wherever it was needed. Her spirit of charity extended beyond the church walls and included many faithful years of service to Meals on Wheels and an after-school child enrichment program in cooperation with Rhame Elementary. Anyone who knew her is well aware that she was an avid Gamecock fan and an educator through and through. So much so, she donated her body to the USC School of Medicine.

Madelyn is survived by her children, Mark Knight (Pam), Frank Knight (Amanda), and Kelly Knight Long (Brady). Her cherished grandchildren are Jessi Knight Blake (Josh), Korin Knight Rogerson (Andrew), Campbell Long, Jacob Long, Buster, Brynn, Tyne, Fossey, Carson, and Pushinka. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Joey and John Blake, and Porter and Maeve Rogerson. Survivors also include her sister-in-law, Roseanne Mankin, and brother-in-law, Jerry Butler, and many dear nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service is scheduled for Sunday, February 19th, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC, 29210. Masks are encouraged. After the service, visitation with the family will be held in the church atrium adjacent to the sanctuary. Condolences to the family can be shared online via www.everloved.com/life-of/Mad….

In lieu of flowers, Madelyn requested gifts be made to the Lena Andrews Scholarship Fund at St. Andrews Baptist Church (address listed above).
