Lynora's obituary

Lynora Bowers, 81, of Canyon Lake, TX, passed away at her home on December 23, 2024. She was born November 20, 1943, in Slaton, TX to both the late Thurlow Ferguson and Norma (Robertson) Ferguson and was the youngest of three sisters.

Lynora moved with her family from Slaton to San Angelo, TX and at the age of 16 met the love of her life, 19-year-old Alferd (Al) Bowers of Seymour, MO, who was stationed in San Angelo at the Goodfellow Air Force Base. They were married on April 2, 1960, and the Air Force took them to England for a short time before returning to Lubbock, TX where they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Tammy, in April 1964. Two years later, in Springfield, MO, they welcomed their first son, Randall (Randy). Little did they know then that they’d welcome another son, Gregory (Greg) ten years after that, also in Springfield, MO. She and her family lived in Rogersville, MO, in the same house, for nearly 23 years until she and Al moved to Jacksonville, FL to be near family. There they stayed until life brought them closer to their daughter and her family in Canyon Lake, TX.

Lynora loved to feed the deer that always came to visit at her door. She took pleasure in birdwatching, and they kept her entertained while she admired them from her porch swing as they flew and fed from the collection of birdhouses she kept hanging year-round. She was also a collector of many lighthouses, having nearly an entire room dedicated to them and other things of nautical nature. In her earlier days, she enjoyed getting together with family and friends for card games, auctions, and other miscellaneous events. Of all the things she loved, she adored her family the most and every moment spent with them was something she cherished.

Along with her mother and father, Lynora is preceded in death by her sisters, LaRue Hart and Charlotte Tounget, and many in-laws.

Survivors include her husband, Alferd, of Canyon Lake, TX; her daughter, Tammy Herriage and husband, Albert, of Canyon Lake, TX; her son, Randy Bowers and wife, Dawn, of Springfield, MO; her son, Greg Bowers and wife, Erin, of Bend, OR; four grandchildren: Jason Bowers (Joely), Kimberly Murray, Dustin Herriage (Brittany), and Gabe Bowers; five great-grandchildren: Isaiah Bowers (Tabitha), Logan Bowers, Bryce Horner, Brianna Horner, and Bradley Lins; two great-great grandchildren: U’Lani Bowers and Se’Vyn Bowers; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Bird Watching

by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater

We put out every kind of seed

To watch small birds come flitter-feed.

Blue Jays

Robins

Chickadees

Flutter in from nearby trees.

They swiftly snatch a morning snack.

One flies away,

One flies back.

We sit a while

We guess bird names

We look them up

We watch bird games.

They dip

They soar

They dart right by

We wonder how it feels to fly.
