Lynne's obituary
At age 16, she began teaching 4-5 year olds in Sunday School, and continued teaching over the years at whatever church she was attending. It was at Fairfield, at age 18, that she met Ron Stevens. They began to date and married four years later. In 1974, they moved to Kent, WA, and bought a home where she continued to live until the time of her death. Their three children, Amy Rumney, Tim Stevens, and Katie Hall, all accepted Christ as their Savior as they witnessed Ron and Lynne's commitment to loving and serving the Lord, and experiencing the wonderful change God can make in a person's life. They have carried on that heritage in their own marriages and with their children.
Coming from a big musical family, Lynne loved singing the most and enjoyed harmonizing with her sisters and daughters, singing on worship teams, being in church choirs, and singing in a couple of local choral groups. Other interests included reading, counted cross stitch, crossword puzzles, and collecting salt and pepper sets, bells, and lighthouse memorabilia. Seeing the ocean and road trips with Ron were highlights she looked forward to. Their trip to Italy was remarkable and, after Ron died in 2012, Lynne and Katie went on some memorable vacations also.
Lynne and Ron served at Faith Baptist Church for 18 years, East Hill Foursquare Church for 12 years in various capacities, and at Covington Christian Fellowship for 5 years, where they worked with Covington Food Bank. Most recently, she became a member of Grace Community Church, in Auburn.
From 1990-1994, Lynne and Ron opened and operated Servant's Heart Bookstore in Kent. Many people were touched by the ministry of the store because Lynne's heart to serve was evident to all who came in. After the store closed, she worked at Timberland Bank in Auburn, and then joined the Kent School District accounting department where she worked for 19 years, until her recent retirement.
Her greatest joy were her six grandchildren: Kaden and Sierra Stevens, Julianne and Edie Rumney, and Sidney and Richard Hall. She loved having them stay overnight and going on outings.
Receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer on August 15, 2017, she decided to forgo treatment. Despite a prognosis of 6-12 months to live, God graciously gave her 20 months of life, for which she was eternally grateful. Psalm 17:15b says, "And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face-to-face." After much longing and anticipation, she went home to heaven on April 18, 2019, where she saw Jesus face-to-face!! She was a wonderful example of a life well lived.
