Lynne's obituary

Lynne Anne Bruno, 66, of Orange City, FL, passed away November 28th, 2020, after a hard fought battle with Covid-19 and pneumonia. Born May 20, 1954 in Queens, NY, Lynne spent the first 26 years of her life as a proud New Yorker before relocating to Orange City, FL with her family. Lynne is preceded in death by her mother, Terese Murawski and will be deeply missed by her father, Henry Murawski, and her sons George (Jennifer) and Josh (Renee), and her four grandchildren, Easton, Henry, Jensen, and Reagan. Lynne will also be forever remembered by her siblings, Joseph (Diane) and Robert (Regina) and her beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Lynne was a single mother for most of her sons’ youth, working hard to make sure they never did without, spending countless hours being a devoted sports mom, balancing a household, and nurturing relationships with her parents, extended family, and friends, all while working a majority of her adult life for the Volusia County Schools. After years of hard work and not enough hours in the day, Lynne took early retirement to focus on the people and things she held most dear in the world.

Being a mother was Lynne’s dream. She loved spending time with her boys, getting to know their friends, and in many cases, holding the coveted “second mom” title for so many. She was a gentle advisor, a non-judgemental ear, and a vault of confidence. But, by Lynne’s own admission, it was becoming a Grammy that really fed her soul.

Her constant consideration, infinite adoration, and unbridled enthusiasm toward her grandchildren was unmatched. She used to say the measure of a good grandmother was when each grandchild believed they were the favorite (she knew this because of her own experience with her Grandma “Rawski”). And if that measurement rings true, Lynne was, undoubtedly, the very best.

A caregiver to the core, Lynne also spent years caring for her aging parents, and until the day she went into the hospital with Covid-19, was still preparing and enjoying nightly dinners with her father.

She was not only a dedicated family member, Lynne was also an incredible friend. Many of her friendships spanned decades. Her friendships were stronger than the weathering of time, and the strains of distance, divorce, and tragedy. She considered most of her friends family, and she loved every moment spent with them.

Lynne was a bright smile, a lover of the band “Chicago” (seeing them in concert with beloved friends over a whopping 20 times!), a doodler, and a nurturer. She loved “Law & Order”, New York bagels (salted!), the color pink, crafting and sewing, spaghetti squash, bunnies, keeping her fingernails tidy, making chicken cutlets, Pandora bracelets, shrimp with lobster sauce, daisies, buying gifts, reality television, Gary Carter, doing laundry, and snuggling in her bed.

Covid-19 has taken someone very special from all of us. Lynne was incredibly cautious about the virus, doing everything she could to stay safe- not only for herself, but also so she did not infect her father. She stayed home as much as she could. She followed all the recommended safety protocols, but even more than that, Lynne took action for others, generously making and donating over 2,500 masks to keep loved ones and their loved ones safe. She also donated her masks to local businesses, first responders, and schools. She’s a modern day heroine. Her light and her memory will live on in all of us. May she forever know she was loved “too muches”.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to establish “Grammy Benches” in parks in her hometown of Orange City, FL, and in Tallahassee, FL, and Garner, NC where her grandchildren live. It is her family’s dream to erect benches for Grammys and their grandchildren to make memories in these parks the way Lynne did with her grandchildren. Additional donations above the cost of bench installations will be given to the National Fibromyalgia Association and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.

A virtual Celebration of Life will take place in January. Details will be available soon.
