Lynn's obituary
Lynn A. Yorgey
August 20, 1974 – April 13, 2025
Lynn Adria Yorgey, 50, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, with her sisters by her side after several weeks at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Lynn was the daughter of the late Thomas and Charlotta “Cookie” Yorgey.
Lynn was a 1994 graduate of Weidner Memorial High School in Philadelphia, PA. Those who knew her remember the resilience she displayed in the face of many challenges posed by her paralysis and spina bifida.
Her early years were spent at St. Edmond’s Home for Children in Rosemont, PA, where she learned to swim. In the summer, she often enjoyed the freedom of the water at St. Edmond’s retreat in Bricktown, New Jersey.
At home with her family, Lynn could often be found hanging out in the kitchen while her mother cooked. She had a sweet tooth and loved her Grandmom Yorgey’s recipe for homemade pumpkin pie. To relax, Lynn enjoyed watching movies and classic TV sitcoms such as "Maude", "Rhoda," and "Punky Brewster." She eschewed violent shows, preferring family-friendly films.
Lynn possessed a sarcastic sense of humor and was known for her feisty spirit. This is best exemplified by an interaction with actor Danny DeVito, who was filming "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" near her Chinatown apartment. When DeVito noticed he was blocking Lynn’s path as she approached in her power wheelchair, he turned to introduce himself. Lynn, unfazed by his celebrity, simply replied, “I know who you are, and you are in my way.”
Lynn is survived by her twin sister, Tara (Michael) Smith of Maple Shade, NJ, and her sister, Lisa (Robert) Lester of Ambler, PA. She was also a proud aunt to Alicia Smith, Brian Lester, and Michael Smith Jr.
Internment will be private.
