Lynn's obituary
Lynn Sorensen, 80, of Avon, CT, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Lynn was born on June 21, 1945, in Hartford, CT, to Roger and Jeannette Clairmont and grew up in Willimantic with her two younger brothers. After graduating high school, she moved to Hartford to begin her adult life, and those early years in the city became some of her fondest memories. She loved the energy, the friendships she made, and the independence she found there.
In 1973, Lynn married Charles Michell Sorensen, and together they raised two children who remained the center of her world. Although their marriage later ended, they continued to support one another and stayed connected through the lives of their children.
Lynn was the kind of person who made life brighter just by being in the room. She was vibrant, resilient, compassionate, and wonderfully outgoing. She adored her family and friends, and nothing brought her more joy than time spent with them. She was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother to her four grandchildren (Olivia, Brady, Ben and Gavin), who were truly the light of her life.
She had a natural gift for making people feel welcome. Whether she was hosting wine‑and‑cheese gatherings at her apartment, chatting with neighbors on her patio, or striking up conversations with strangers who quickly became friends, Lynn created community wherever she went. She loved simple pleasures — trips to Saybrook for lunch at Lenny & Joe’s, events at her clubhouse, afternoons at the Avon Public Library, and visits to the senior center. She never missed a chance to share a story, a laugh, or a warm conversation.
Lynn’s life was shaped by perseverance. When challenges came, she met them with grace, determination, and an unwavering belief that she could rise above them. Even in her final chapter, during a 15‑month battle with leukemia, she showed remarkable courage and strength. She fought for every day, and she lived them with the same spirit that defined her entire life.
Lynn is survived by her children, Kristen (Michael) Thompson and Todd (Christy) Sorensen; her grandchildren; and her brothers, James Clairmont and Roger Clairmont. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her quiet strength, her selflessness, and the love she shared so freely with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
