John (Jack) Philip Cooper
January 04, 1934 - February 07, 2019

John (Jack) Philip Cooper, 85 was a dual resident of Marietta, and New Roads Louisiana, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Emory University Hospital. Born on January 4, 1934, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine Cooper. A U. S. Air Force Veteran, Mr. Cooper had retired from Civil Service. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the local Elks Lodge. Jack enjoyed traveling, was an avid sports fan, and he especially enjoyed the local area team games and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Lynn Cooper, Corey Cooper, and Devin Cooper and Daughters in law, Carla and Layla Cooper, of Valdosta; grandchildren, Gretchen and Brandon Cowart, and Jenna and Michael Swails; great-grandchildren Cohen and Colyer Cowart, and Gunner Swails, all of Hahira; a brother, Donald Cooper of Walnut Creek, California; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J.P. and Kathryn Barker; a special aunt, Rachel Lofton of Valdosta, a special friend, Martha Tootle of Valdosta; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lois Barker Cooper; a brother, Joseph Cooper and a sister, Katherine Donelan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 12:00 noon at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Dawid Kwiatkowski will officiate. Burial will follow at False River Gardens. A Rosary will be held from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at Nilands Funeral Home with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. The family asks that memorial contributions be made in memory of Mr. Cooper to St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
