Here at Sir Walter Apartments Office Cedric will be truly missed. He brought joy to us and the other residents all around the building. Showing great care to his beloved animals and family. We will keep you in our hearts and we hope the best for your family in friends in the future!
I met Cedric while working as a mentor/counselor for Community Success Initiative, an organization which works with people transitioning from prison to the real world. Not that prison is not real, but it is, if I may, real in an incredibly unreal way. And for those like Cedric, who were locked up for long terms - 28 years in his case - the outside reality can be pretty unreal. I have a motto I must live by in this occupation: when all I have to go on is guts I don’t have enough to go on. I need to be shown. Cedric showed me. Like other “poster men for rehabilitation” he had taken a decision at some point, and lived with it. The pride and social feedback that comes with adopting the straight life is not subtle. It pulsates. The clarity of speech, the eye contact, the immediate strength of character are all present in abundance. In the course of decades doing this work I have stepped across professional lines and developed lifelong friendships with a very select few. It almost just can’t be helped. Bonds occur. I say it frankly, I loved this man like a brother. In a way, we had lived the same story. I will miss Cedric for the rest of my life. And he will be with me for the rest of my life. He set a high standard to live up to, and I will always live with that standard in my conscience. Farewell, buddy. You left us way too soon.
Chuck Galle
My condolences to Luther's family and other friends. I first met Luther when I was introduced by our mutual friend Chuck Galle. Chuck had told me that Cedric needed help with his book, especially copyrighting it and editing it. We got together several times to discuss the progress I was making. Soon after we met, I got the copyright done and a couple of weeks later, the editing was done. I’m glad Cedric got to see the edited version and also saw the copyright confirmation. I had hoped to be his neighbor but alas that didn’t happen. Even though I did not know him long, I already miss him.
Cedric and I friends over 60 years Family Ties lived in the same building over 60 years rest in peace... Mike Marshall
