Bud's obituary

Luster (Bud) Hursey, 89, of Mundelein, IL, died on July 6th, 2019.

Bud was born in East Gary, Indiana on May 28th, 1930, to Solomon Luster and Lillian (Collar). He is survived by the love of his life, Lois (Basetich) of 40 years, his children Sue (Dave) Perry, Jon, Kevin (Diane), Robin, Joe (Carlota), Kip (Betty) and Aimee Warner. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin, parents, brother Otto Ray and sister, Wilma (Good). Also survived by 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was known by many names: Bud, Dad, Pa, Uncle Bud and Luster Bud.

Bud retired in 1992 from truck driving for Inlander-Steindler Paper Co. The same year he also retired as a volunteer firefighter from the Lake Station, Indiana, fire department. He was the Fire Chief for the last four of his 38 years on the department.

Family was most important to Bud and he played Santa Claus every Christmas (and sometimes in July!) for the kids – big and small – for his family as well as his and Lois’s many nieces and nephews.

Gardening was always a passion and his garden displayed beautiful colors from spring to fall. Since moving to the northwest suburbs of Chicago in 1993, Bud discovered his passion for betting the ponies at Arlington International Racecourse.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
