Lula's obituary

Lula Turner Hayes, aka The Sunshine Girl, METT, GG, and a myriad of other nicknames, lost her valiant battle with cancer on November 8th, 2022.

Her taste and sense in fashion were superior, usually the best dressed in any room. She loved color: in attire, wall color, language, and garden; but also very much appreciated that we all live in a world with a lot of gray.

Her ability to turn a house into a home and a yard into a showcase garden was unparalleled. Even in cancerous years she could outwork the best of us! She could envision how things would go together, nurture them, and, like magic, magazine-worthy compositions would emerge.

She was the Ultimate Creative, whether it was in design work, sewing and other projects, various mediums of art, or shaping the minds of 4-year-olds. From graphic design to window dressings, from charcoal sketches to smocked bibs, she left us a portfolio of creations to appreciate and cherish.

She started stories mid-stream, had a bit of a mischievous twinkle in her eye, and could cut you with sarcasm. She maintained this demeanor and her sense of humor her entire life.

She was the bestest of mothers and an even better GG. Having saved all of the beautiful clothes she sewed for her girls, the universe delivered her four active grandsons - setting her on a different path for projects.

She was the kind of person who just let you be who you are and was highly adept at assessing personalities. Because of this, she attracted a rather varied group of friends.

She is survived by her daughters Mary and Liz, her siblings Re, Et, Ja, and Ro, nieces and nephews, and her friends, who will all miss her immensely. In lieu of a memorial service, the family suggests putting on a colorful outfit and drinking an Old Fashioned in her honor.
