Luis was such a beautiful being,  an amazing reflection of the Love that is within us all.  He showed me how to recognize how precious and magical we all are and how special it is to share in loving moments and give each other the space to recognize God in us.  He was truly an angel.
I knew Luis through dancing Kizomba, fusion, and doing hot yoga. Seeing him always brought a smile to my face. He was so present, ready to explore and improvise, as well as connect. I always felt I could not only be myself with him, but that he welcomed whoever I happened to be in that moment. Dancing with him was such a gift of presence, creativity and joy. He was a positive and creative force. I am so thankful that we could share part of this journey together.
Luis was always so kind and respectful. So encouraging. I experienced this from him and I observed this in the way he spoke with and treated other dancers. He was particularly compassionate with me one week before he passed when I shared with him that my dad had recently passed. His empathy and tenderness meant so much to me. My dad's name is Enrique. I don't think I mentioned his name to Luis so I didn't realize until now that Enrique is Luis's middle name. I will miss you Luis Enrique! We all will. Gracias Amigo, por ser un hombre, una persona, tan buena. Blessings, love and peace to you Dear One, and to your family.

We are all devestated by the loss of our dear friend Luis Balam. It’s been a few too many weeks since my last dance with him, and now there won’t be another. I loved how Luis would catch my eye across the room, extend an excited hand inviting me to dance. Our dances were creative and flowing… a blend of casino, salsa and whatever else we came up with. With Luis it just flowed. I will miss you saying “wow” whenever a spontaneous pattern would evolve between us on the dance floor. The laughs when some move wouldn’t quite work out. And the knowledge that no two dances we co-created together would be the same. What I would give for another sweaty hug from you. Rest easy dear friend. There will always be an empty hole on the dance floor where we will miss your presence.
I'm so sorry for your loss. He was always so friendly to me at dance events. A kind soul. May he find his way home.
Lo siento. He was always so passionate about his dancing. When we spoke it was always just a few words, in a few seconds. Very cool guy. Going to miss him. Yeah, many sprits and hearts are sad and broken. To quote a movie clip, ‘there are no prosthetics for a broken spirit’.🥺🥺🥺
I shall miss our friend Luis. He was ALWAYS kind, gentle, welcoming, and respectful to everyone on the dance floor.  We need more people like Luis in this world.
Loved Luis… I cut my teeth as a dancer in Portland. We’d see each other often at a wide range of dances… He was always cool, laid back… kind. I have love for him as my salsa brother. It saddens me to hear he has passed… salsa communities are not only built, but maintained and grown because of good natured spirits like his. Much love Luis 💛
Luis and I would dance together. Often only 3 minutes an evening. We had an improvisational style and he had remarkably upbeat energy! I felt happy when he asked me to dance and rejuvenated by his rhythms . I will hold Luis in my heart as I continue to dance.
Louis was warm and friendly. His hard work and dedication to his fitness was admirable to watch. Will miss him seeing him in the hot room at Forge.
Luis was one of the most pure-hearted and compassionate people I have ever been blessed to have as a friend. He came into each moment with love, hope, and curiosity. Over the years, his presence, reflection, support and advice have been a guiding light to me in very dark times.  Our friendship brought us both so much healing and empowerment. I wouldn't be who I am today without his guidance on the path, and I'm so grateful this life brought us together. See you in the stars Brother. Rest In Paradise. 🙏❤️‍🔥✨️
Luis was such a respectful, unique and relentlessly enthusiastic mover. His spirit reminds us to be present, zestful and tenacious. What a loss for our community. I know he’s dancing wherever he is. Save one for me, Luis. ❤️
Luis was an amazing yoga student of mine! I could count on seeing his face at least twice a week every single week in the studio. His signature was knocking out about 60 push ups before and after every single class… He pushed himself and me. He was always so friendly and such a light. Prayers to his family and friends!

Luis was a great yoga student and always came ready to sweat and enjoy his practice. I will miss his handstands and having him around the yoga studio. 🤍 Take care.

♥️♥️♥️ Luis brought such an amazing vibe to the dance floor and the Portland music community as a whole. It felt like he came to every show early and had such an incredible, loving disposition. Even early on before we knew each other well, he would greet me with a big hug. I'll miss you, Luis, and your energy carries on with all of us!
Luis was a beloved member of our dance community. He was passionate about music and dance and always a force of positivity. He will be missed.
