Luis's obituary

In Loving Memory of Luis Cisneros

March 8, 1962 – June 3, 2025

Luis Cisneros, 63, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on June 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Luis was born on March 8, 1962, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of John Cisneros and Lenor Gloria (Luna) Cisneros. From a young age, Luis was known for his quick wit, playfulness, and the spark he brought to everyone around him. His siblings nicknamed him Squeaky which he proudly accepted.

In 1978, at just 16 years old, Luis met Cynthia (Slavik) Cisneros. The two were married on May 29, 1986, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their daughter, Vanessa Cisneros, was born on February 14, 1987—a true Valentine’s gift. Together, Luis and Cynthia empowered Vanessa to be strong, compassionate, and confident in a challenging world, something Luis took great pride in. Having met so young, Luis and Cynthia grew up together and were central figures in one another's families. Despite separating in 2012, Luis remained a beloved and missed member of Cynthia’s family.

Professionally, Luis dedicated his career to loss prevention—a field where he not only excelled but genuinely enjoyed the work and responsibility it entailed.

Luis was a man of many passions. He had a lifelong interest in martial arts, especially Wing Chun Kung Fu, and was a proud Michigan Wolverine fan (Go Blue!). Luis never turned down an invitation to watch an MMA fight or a big game (in which there may or may not have been a small wager involved). He delighted in games of all kinds—whether playing Lotería, euchre, Monopoly, or Trouble—and was known for his playful competitiveness (and sometimes making his nieces cry). His love of horror and thriller films gave him a special fondness for Halloween, a holiday he celebrated with enthusiasm: you could count on Luis to decorate, put on a spooky costume, terrify trick-or-treaters, and hand out the best candy on the block. Taking after his father, he also loved to cook; a favorite recipe of his father's to re-create was “T.J. tacos,” a family favorite that always brought people together around the table.

Despite battling kidney and heart disease for 28 years, Luis’s warmth and humor always found ways to leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Above all, Luis loved God, his family, and his friends deeply.

Luis is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Cisneros (Michael Moak); siblings Cynthia (Daniel) Midura, Kathleen (Christopher) Liles, Timothy (Cristie) Cisneros, Alfredo (Debra) Abolio; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Cisneros and Lenor Gloria (Luna) Cisneros; his sister, Debra Cisneros Abolio; and his brother, John Cisneros Jr.

Also surviving are his partner, Patricia Ann Garcia, stepchildren, Delilah (Leonel) Faz, Ralph Garcia Jr. and Gina (Stephen) Blevins, and many step-grandchildren.
