Lucy's obituary
Lucy Tolleson Whyman III, age 59, of Peoria, AZ, passed away September 21st 2024.
Lucy was born on June 3rd 1965 to Jack L. & Helen M. Whyman Sr. in Phoenix Arizona. Lucy was the youngest of six children and named after her Gran Gran Mary Lucy Tolleson, an heir to the City of Tolleson, Arizona.
Lucy graduated from Tolleson Union High School and went on to earn her Bachelors of Art in Human Service Communications at Arizona State University West. She also earned an Associate of Arts in Communications and Associate of General Studies at Estrella Mountain Community College in. Her passion and communication education translated to her dedication in work as a Behavioral Health Specialist and the care she gave to her patients and co-workers.
Lucy grew up tough, resilient and full of wonder in the Arizona countryside. Aside from being very intelligent, she was beautiful and modeled in her younger years. Her passions included being a dog mom, decorating, grunge music & country western dancing. She had a vivacious personality and infectious laugh and made friends everywhere she went.
Lucy met her first husband Bates M. Sale Jr. on the dance floor at Mr. Lucky’s in the mid 80’s and married a year later. Bates and Lucy had two children together, their daughter Sissy Jean Sale and son, Bates Marsh Sale III. Lucy went on to meet and marry Duran De La Pena of Buckeye, to which they had her third child, son Dylan De La Pena. Lucy was so proud of and treasured her children, she embraced every moment she spent with them. She especially loved her role as Gramma to her 6 beloved grandson’s Haden, Jayden, Jaxson, Kye, Kingston & Campion. Lucy’s maternal love spread to her all her nieces and nephews whom she also held close to her heart and cherished.
Lucy is survived by her three children; Daughter Sissy Sale and Husband Michael J. Bonham, Marsh Sale and Partner Cassandra Calloway and Dylan De La Pena; Her six grandchildren Haden T. Sale 15, Jaxson B. Brown 11, and Kingston M. Bonham 3 of Sissy Sale; Jayden Marsh Sale 13, Kye Moon Sale 5, and Campion Sky Sale 2 of Marsh Sale III; Dear sister of Susanne Straussner and husband Steve, Sandra Whyman and partner Jim Tanner, Jack Whyman Jr. and wife Jaine, Richard Whyman and Bill Burnsed and wife Polly. She was predeceased in death by her parents Jack L. & Helen M. Whyman Sr., ex-husband Bates M. Sale Jr. and great niece Hannah Marie Turowski.
A celebration of life will take place at Casa Del Sol – West on Sunday, November 17th 2024 between 11am-1pm.
