Lucy Grace Rowe Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucy Grace (Copes) Rowe, a longtime resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025. She passed away peacefully in Dawson Creek at the age of 89 and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Lucy was born on August 13, 1935, in Fort St. John, British Columbia, to Helen Barbara Copes and Cesare Felice Copes. Lucy grew up on a Homestead in Cecil Lake, British Columbia, until she went to Victoria to earn her teacher’s certificate in 1954. She became a teacher in a one room schoolhouse at Sunset Prairie teaching grades 1-8. She married Robert (Bob) Rowe during the school’s winter break on December 21, 1955. Shortly after that she became a stay-at-home wife and mother and had 3 beautiful girls that brought her so much joy over the years.
Lucy was a very peaceful soul. She was calm, restful and never raised her voice in anger. Her daughters all agree that she was the stable rock in their home never yelling at them. They could always count on her. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her friends say Lucy was a ‘wonderful lady’. She had no enemies – everyone loved sweet Lucy. She was an avid reader, visiting the public library every 3 weeks to get a new set of books. Lucy loved to walk with friends and would walk a mile twice a week or more. Even after surgery repairing a broken femur when she was 87 years old, she recovered and was walking again and briskly! The nurses would encourage her to slow down but she was always on a mission to get somewhere and didn’t want to dilly dally. Lucy enjoyed curling for many, many years. She also loved gardening and always had flowers out front and a huge vegetable garden in the back. Lucy and Bob loved camping and went every summer for 57 years until the trailer got to be too much to haul around. Her favorite thing to do at the campsite was to go for a walk and sit around the fire.
Lucy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandma and friend. She was a very reliable, faithful and organized person. She loved her family deeply and travelled often to visit the far away family members for new births, weddings or just a yearly visit. Lucy travelled all over British Columbia and Alberta; and had been to Alaska, The Maritimes, Europe, Cuba, Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, and Montana. She was always up for a new adventure - evidenced by her travelling to Victoria in 1954 to be a teacher. She served as a Royal Purple member for over 50 years and called Dawson Creek her home for 68 years. She is going to be deeply missed by many loved ones.
Lucy was preceded in death by her mother Helen Barbara Copes; father Cesare Felice Copes; baby brother Stanley Copes; and brother Donald Clarence Copes.
Lucy is survived by her husband of 69 years Robert Clarke Rowe; daughters Cathy Louise Rowe Jeannotte, Shelly Ann (Carl) Dahlen, and Cristy Dawn (Tom) Jensen; grandchildren Layce Alexandria (Mitch) Regehr, Carl Elling (Carmen) Dahlen, Myles Robert (Sarah) Jeannotte, Trevor Daniel Dahlen, Carter Thomas (Abby) Jensen, Brady Alan Jensen, Dillon Travis Jensen, and Taylor Nicole Jensen; 6 great grandchildren; sister Jessie Alvina Bean; brothers Leo Duncan (Marj) Copes and James Keith (Jill) Copes; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to invite all those who knew and loved Lucy to a Celebration of Life that will be held in her honour on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00PM at the Seniors Citizens Hall, Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Lucy to the Dawson Creek Public Library, 1001 McKellar Avenue, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 4W7.
