Lucy's obituary

Lucy Wheeless Bruner was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and woman of faith. She went home to be with Jesus at the age of 86 on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Lucy was born on July 29, 1937, in Rosenberg, Texas to her parents Carroll and Lela Wheeless.

She spent most of her childhood on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas, where her father was the tennis coach, before moving to Saginaw and graduating from Northside High School. After attending Baylor University as a music major, she worked as a church secretary before getting her real estate license. Lucy worked as a realtor for over 50 years, helping thousands of families find their homes in north Texas.

In 1981, Lucy married her sweetheart, Jay Bruner, and they were married for over 30 years. Together they shared a love of travel and ministry which led to many mission trips served together, locally and abroad.

Lucy was a faithful member of Cross Church NRH (formerly known as NRHBC) for 42 years, serving in several ministries in addition to volunteering with Cornerstone Assistance Network. She loved being a member of the choir and playing piano for services and her Sunday school class.

Lucy was a skilled pianist, a style icon, and had a smile that lit up every room she was in. She was a firecracker whose love for the Baylor bears could only be beat by her love for her family and Jesus.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Bruner; parents, Carroll and Lela Wheeless; and son-in-law, Rodney Harris.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Harris, Kristy and Brett Autrey, Kathy and Kevin Witham, Chuck and Janet Bruner, Kip and René Bruner, Julie and Sam Avary, Jay and Regina Bruner along with 27 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and her best friend Joy Sanders.

Lucy’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 10:30 am at Cross Church NRH; 6955 Boulevard 26 North Richland Hills, Texas 76180.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Cornerstone Assistance Network in her honor.
