Lucinda's obituary
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Lucinda Hammonds, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on October 25, 2023. Lucinda was born on April 22, 1935, and lived a life full of commitment, stoicism, and endurance, impacting the lives of everyone she met.
Lucinda's willful and strong spirit lives on through her children: Belvery Lucas, James Harrell, Vernon Harrell, Ann Jones, Patricia Washington, and Lynette Worrell. She was also a cherished grandmother to Savior Knight and Jasmine Frazier Marcial. Lucinda was predeceased by her birthday twin daughter, Diane Harrell, and grandson, Dewlon Donnell, who she held dearly in her heart.
A woman of taste and strong Southern traditions, Lucinda loved fried okra, cornbread and black-eyed peas and relished Grape Manischewitz. An avid reader, she melted into love stories that spread warmth around her. She enjoyed listening to Sam Cooke and her favorite television show was 'Mama's Place'. Lucinda was a NY Yankees fan she loved Derek Jeter and spent her leisure time listening to the Gospels, a testament to her spiritual roots.
Lucinda's striking lavender color preference was a reflection of her personality - witty, sharp, committed, and steadfast. She danced and sang to the beat of her own drum. She radiated strength and defied the odds; inspiring many to do the same.
Lucinda's greatest achievement was birthing her children, and through them, her legacy of faithfulness to family will continue to shine. She has left us with a wealth of wisdom, memories, life lessons, and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
Lucinda will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
