Lucile's obituary

Lucile (Cilie) Huff Sutton, 98, died February 25, 2023. Cilie was the last of the 4 dependable Huff girls and leaves just 1 cousin (Mrs. Lynn Krauss) from her generation. She was born February 15, 1925, on Kinzie Avenue in the Gordonston neighborhood of Savannah. In March of 1946, she married her marine, William C (Bill) Sutton Jr. In 1956 they moved around the corner to Duffy Street, and there resided until her death. Surely the road to heaven follows the streetcar tracks thru Gordonston, because Cilie drove that route every time she got behind the wheel - regardless the destination! Cilie and Bill had two children – Susan and Billy.

Cilie devoted her life to family, friends, First Baptist Church, and a little mischief. Nothing meant more to her than relationships. Cilie loved people. If you had a birthday, you could expect a call. Cilie was devoted to the people and the ministries of First Baptist. Born into the cradle roll, if the doors were open, she was in attendance. In all manner of life, she was steadfast.

Cilie loved teaching children to swim – so if you knew her its likely she had you in the pool. In her younger days, she loved riding the waves at Tybee – even into her 80s.

Preceded in death by Bill and Susan, Cilie is survived by Billy and his Wife, Nancy, Grandchildren Rebecca, Betsy, and Will along with her 5 nephews, their families, and countless friends from so many generations.

Our family would like to thank all the loving souls from Home Instead that faithfully cared for Cilie, and the wonderful staff of Hospice Savannah that cared for her in her final journey.

Memorials can be made in Cilie’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Savannah, P.O. Box 9551, Savannah, GA 31401.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel, with the Funeral service Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 11:00 at First Baptist Church of Savannah. Private burial will follow.
